Court North’s housing team were greatly saddened to hear today of the unexpected death of Simon (Spike) Mullings whilst on holiday in Scotland this weekend. Spike was a tremendously committed housing lawyer and champion of legal aid. He won the Legal Aid Lawyer of the Year in the social welfare category in 2020 and co-chaired the Housing Law Practitioners Association from March 2020 to March 2024. He was one of the first to push for a stay on possession proceedings in March 2020 and together with Marina Sergides of Garden Court Chambers made sure that the needs of tenants and the homeless were properly considered by the Ministry of Justice throughout the Covid-19 pandemic.
