As a child, Mel and Spike were always my favourite of my Mum's friends to see and go on holiday with, and they always will be. I truly enjoyed Spike's company and will forever remember how much laughter came with it. Though I didn't see Spike as much as I grew up, every time I did—whether at a family gathering, on holiday, or at a work event with my Mum—he was always the funniest in the room, and the most enjoyable person to be around. He could command everyone's attention, whether he was telling stories, making people laugh, or sharing his love for music through a song, and we all loved it.
 
I will always treasure my memories of Spike, how charming he was, and how engaging it was to be in his company. I'll never forget the fun we had on our last family holiday to Bute, the advice he gave me about Leeds when I got in to the University, or one of the last times I spoke to him - I was in Austin, Texas, FaceTiming into my Mum’s birthday party, and Spike was excitedly telling me about the music scene there, and giving me some Southern American songs to listen to. As I drove out of Texas, I played those songs, and I know I'll always think of him with a smile whenever I hear them again.
